What a great day it was.  I got a PM last night that Dr. Buck was in Orlando at a seminar and was going to drive up to see me today.  I was elated.  Do you know how far that is?  It takes me 3-3 1/2 hours to make the trip.  Of course Gael makes it in 2, but that starts another story.  :-\

I was sitting in the TV room when there was a knock on the side door.  It was him.  "Come on in!", I said.

We sat in the TV room for a while and talked. Then I had a yearning for a cup of coffee. Off to the kitchen we went to make a pot of coffee.  Coffee and Fig Newtons.

I can't tell you of all the subjects we discussed but it sure was fun.  He had been stationed in Mayport back in the 70's, that was before the turn of the century, and so we had some things that we both knew of the place to make the conversations relative.

We did spend a lot of time talking of metal detecting.  Not all of finding metal in logs either.  We both like to "treasure hunt".  I found that he lives right in the middle of a great civil war camp ground and only four miles from a battleground.  That was a fun talk.

Dave is now a member of the Holey Oak Club.  I took him to the swamp and shot his mug through the revered Live Oak.

Then we went to the yard swing and hoped that a few buzzards would show up.

The day was too short.  I wish he could have stayed longer, but I have an early Dr. appointment in the morning and he was going to go back and watch the Presidential debates.   We almost went for a bar-b-cue sandwich, but he decided that it would be better to do that next time.  I hope there is a next time because I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I sure wish I was there to help with the conversation a bit. Dave is such a quiet guy and seldom has anything to say. ;) ;D

I'm glad somebody had fun today.  I thought about Dave today, I took on a job that turned into a big pain, a fella wanted some long logs sawn 24' long into 6x6's.  Dummy me said "sure, I can do that"... good thing he only wanted 4, it took a stupid amount of time to do them averaged probably 2 hours a piece on them.  I just got home, and I'm headed back tomorrow to do a whack of shorter logs.

See, Dave would have said "i'm not interested".  Only I drug Ga_Boy into this one too....

one 12 hour day down, another one slated for tomorrow...

I'm gaining "experience"...

One of these days, i'll make it down there for something, Tom!

I got a square of it. It was 5 3/4" by 5 3/4" by 1 inch thick. Just perfect.  :)

Forum visits are nice.  So far, Tom, Customsawyer, Dang, Fla .Deadheader, Swampy. Sgtmaconga, Lanier Lurker, Dodgy Loner, and Cedarman have paid me a visit.  Hopefully, there will be many more to come.  I could have used a visitor today to help me stack a whack of red oak lumber :).

I have enjoyed my visits with Dr Buck at the Pig Roast.  OK, DR, you will have to come up I-75 next time and come see me ;D.  Bring long log Dan with you too :D.

QuoteWhat a great day it was.

I agree!   A very nice time.

Let me start by ending the rumors of Tom's place being guarded by alligators. :o

The small ponds in the middle of the driveway were void of any gator sign.  ;)

Good thing I was driving a rental.  ;D

The alleged breeding pool was also void of gator sign.

Note:  The may have been under water.  I didn't check.  ::)

The upper end (near civilization) was protected by the large blue object below.   I believe it is rolled out as a blockade to keep government agents from entry.

Tom........where's the Holy Oak picture?  ???   Evidence is required for proof of membership.   :D

I really did have an enjoyable time.   Much more than if I had participated in the full day activities at the conference I'm attending down here in Orlando.

WDH...I think a drive from Orlando to your place is a little longer than a up and back visit.  ;)

Dr,

You are right.  But when you go to visit DanG from Virginia, I am on the way ;D.

I'm sitting at the Orlando airport waiting on my flight.  Seems like a decade since I saw Tom on Tuesday.  ;)    You should have seen the looks I got from Budget when I turned in my rental.   :o :o :o    It was covered with a substantial layer of Tom's driveway.  ;D

Wish I had more time to visit with some of the other local FF members down here.   I did have to participate in the conference the company sent me down here for.  :-\

Hi Don,

I am still around, since I sold the mill I do not get on here as much.  About a month ago I was drying a load of Walnut for Dan; one of the Partlow controllers in my kiln controller blew, I put a few posts on the kiln board.  Garrett of PC Specaility got me back up and running.

Today I am starting off load of partially AD mix lumber, Dan cut this for a fellow we meet about 6 months ago when we were sawing over in Calvert County, a Maryland Circuit Court Judge called me wanting some Walnut milled.  I drug Dan in on that one.  There seems to be a pattern here, Dan, Dave (DR BUCK) and I keep dragging each other in to little adventures..... :D  as long as we keep making money (OK, as long as we don't loose money)  we keep looking for the next adventure to get in to.

You asked about those big slabs from that big tree we did a few years back.  I am taking two of the slabs over to one of my customers house this afternoon.  He is a commercial cabinet maker.  He has a CNC router,  I am contracting him to flatten out the slabs for me.  One of them will be a new kitchen island top and the other will be a new kitchen table top.  Both are for my kitchen.

When I get the tops done I'll post some pictures.  I am thinking about doing some inlay work with either Cherry or Black Walnut.

Good to hear from you. I hope the slabs turn out ok. Do post some pics later. I am drying a big slab of pecan for a entry table.
