The mill seems to operate just fine, sawing, but when I pull the lever to return the head, it really seems to move slow.
The mill has 952 hours on it.
Anyone have past similar problem?  What was the fix?
Think it might be the feed drive belt?

You may want to check the head cam bearings to see if one is draging or stuck or something.

could be the rollers or they are adjusted too tight to the rails.  Might be the feed belt or a build up in the roller boxes.  If it was the belt it should forward slow also.  Is the dial turned higher for forward to get the same feed?

Also check your drum switch. Especially being close to 1000 hours.

On my older mill the belt slips a bit. If I run it while its raining it grabs well.
Lot of stuff..

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I plan on sawing tomorrow afternoon, so I'll check out the suggestions then.

The speed of a DC motor is controlled by voltage. If you don't find anything mechanical, check the drum switch as Mo suggested. Dirty/poor connections = voltage drop.

Checked everything mentioned in this post!
Checked feed rollers, all turn feely.
Cleaned and relubed the drum switches.
Checked and tightened the feed motor belt.  Put a replacement belt on my "to get" list for when I go to Hanibal next Friday.

Anyway, after doing all the above, the feed works well now!
Thanks for the tips guys!

Actually, yes!
As a matter of fact, we got rained out today!  ::)  The rains came when we were about 2½ hours into sawing!  smiley_furious
Didn't notice any difference in feed rate once it started raining!  ;D

The feed rate on mine generally comes to a dead halt when it rains. :D

Kinda funny isn't it!
Mine came to a complete stop too, just as soon as I finished the 6x8x8 cant that I was sawing into inch boards.  ;)
