i got a call from one of my two employee's this morning, he's in the army reserve. his staff sgrt told him he needs to report today for 3 week deployment. where is the heads up for employers? my guy told him he can't just leave like that , sgrt. "they can't fire you for this"
i'm not upset with my guy, it's the mentality of the srgt. everything we do at work takes 2 guys, ya we still have2 guys (myself and 1 more) here's the rub, i have 1 seperated shoulder, and the other shoulder has bursitis. basically i'm a bird that can't fly right now.
some how we will manage( lots of advil). the part that really chaps my hindend is no one seams to care about anyone else in this country anymore, the lack of communication on the part of the srgt. puts a real hardship on me and my company!
thanks for listening to me vent!!

's one of the reasons I wouldn't consider the reserves...besides the fact that it is a lousy deal...

I'm thankful that we have the reserves. And thankful for those who are serving in the reserves, and for those who support them being there.
I hope that red oaks can cover for him, and am sure he has a work ethic that will getRdun.

  Sorry to hear that RE.
  Just as bad as the post by Bibbyman, about his DIL's company, that said to fire the reservist as soon as he gets back.  >:( >:( >:(  Isn't foreign companies that operate in the states, subject to the same rules as American companies ???  THAT SUX. Sweden is a country of Special prophets or something ???
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
   Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

Can anybody explain why we are sending our kids and money over there?
I read in the paper that the current estimate for bailouts--mostly related to  the war--are $8.4 trillion.

Over where?  It is pretty obvious that with just a 3 week deployment, the purpose is related to the disaster in Haiti.  The Reserves are just that, a reserve force, to be used as needed.  The people who serve in that way accept a paycheck and get a pension if they stay long enough.  One of their benefits is that their civilian jobs are held for them whenever they are activated.  Employers of Reservists and National Guardsmen should be aware of this and have a contingency plan for when they are on duty.

Red Oaks Lumber, that Sergeant had no say in the matter.  He was pulled away from his job and family just as your employee was.  Sergeants don't make the decisions to activate units. ::)

Red Oaks ...

   What kind of mill are you running up there in Spooner? Are you guys sawing only oak or other species too? I've been down with a shoulder that I dislocated while I had millwork to do. I know what it's like. I feel your pain. Be real careful about doing too much too soon. Mine healed up good but I really babied it to make sure it would.
