It is called the "supper market mentality".  " Food comes from the grocery  store" "who cares about the farmer".  Same mentality apllies "Lumber comes from a lumber store". The people in charge have no idea. Great post AK

Once the stud is covered up by drywall and sheathing, the only quality left to determine is whether the building stands up or falls down.  From what I've seen a building that stands or fails is far more dependent on fasteners used, the design, and the carpenters skill than how much wane is on the stud or if it has pith in the center.


If this is true then why bother grading them sticks anyway, just put an engineered simpson  fastener ( 90% of code law is product oreinted) and when that imature, heart centered, graded and stamp piece of poop decides to twist right out of it's nails, we can blame it on simpson.
