chocker repair

Howdy guys,  I was wondering if they make a nubbin end repair for 3/8" FSE chocker or just go buy a new one?  The one I have broke at the nubbin about four inches in and it seems to be a waste to toss it.  Thanks guys for any info.

Is this a cable choker? If it broke on the bell end, it's probaly cheaper to buy a new one unless you have a place to get a new bell swaged on.

When I bought my skidder, the mainline end had been repaired by doubling the cable and putting two cable clamps on it. I haven't used it much since I got it, I cut one load of Red Oak firewood using it and the cable clamps held fine. There were some big oaks in there too, I really wasn't expecting it to hold, but it did.

There is a in the field repair, it's a three peice affair that makes a knob and is available at any logging supply, it doesent cost that much to have a new knob pressed on your choker compared to the cost of a new one, either fix the cost is about the same.

Thanks guys I have seen the repair end for larger cable but not 3/8"s. I guess I'll do some more digging.

Flushcut,  I think what you want is called a ferrule & wedge. Go to the Labonville site. If they don't have it for logging, you don't need it. Also, you can call Josh in the saw shop, he's always willing to answer questions, etc.

Tie an over hand knot in it. . . . Like you would on a winch line.

Buy a new choker know matter what you do it won't be as good as a new one also if the end pulled off then most places will replace it

We never tried to repair chokers, new ones were a lot cheaper than a dropped load or somebody getting hurt. If it broke the whole cable is likely in poor shape.

Some of it is kind of tore up but the last two feet and was going to cut that out. It just seems to be a waste of six feet of chocker even if it's almost as much as a new one, I am kinda cheap that way.
