I need a larger diameter router bit for a project and it is rated for a maximum of 18,000 rpm.  My routers all turn above 25,000.

I was wondering how good are the after market speed controls that are available $30- 50 range? Does the router still have the same amount of torque?

Works fine for me.  Those big raised panel bits are scary.

While at HF, I bought there speed control for less than $15 with the idea I would return it if it does not  function correctly.

Should I expect the same operation from speed control when used with an electric drill as a drill with build in variable speed control?

My 3/8 inch Porter Cable drill has enough torque to twist the drill out of my hand at slow speed.
