While driving last nite I passed an owb -with fire shooting out the chimney ~2'. Don't know what kind it was. I have a heatmor and was wondering if a chimney fire would damage anything? I haven't seen this with mine. Just wondering if this is hard on the boiler?

I have a chimney fire in my old woodmaster somewhat regularly. When enough creosote builds up it just burns when the wind is right and the firebox door is open. Doesn't hurt anything as it usually only lasts a couple minutes.

While I occasionally have seen sparks from my chimney, I have had only one instance of what I would call a chimney fire.  Shut down the stove, but left the pumps circulating, and it went out relatively quickly.

As I often load with the doors open and the fans still on, to help the coal bed heat up and see the progression of the gasification, I am sure I watched things for too long and let things get too hot.  I have curtailed that process since it occured.

I have not had any such issue with my eclassic 2300, but I have seen the inner pipe glowing red hot at times.

Chimney fires occur with fireplace inserts also.

I've had not had one in my Heatmor,YET and I have 3 add on sections of pipe.I doubt it would do any damage to mine. My sections are 1/4 steel.I have burned every type of wood in Maine, green, dry and dead and never a problem so far.

I was wondering if the the stove would overheat, if the flu got to hot. I don't have any extra chimney sections on mine. Thanks

I think the water in the boiler would keep the "stove" from overheating. People I know with OWB in the neighborhood encourage a good chimney fire to clean it out once in a while.

I go through my clay tile in the house chimney so like to keep chimney fires to a minimum. Only because of the in-house danger and destruction of clay tile.

My Classic 4436 came with the draft damper wide open.
The first year I often saw flames shooting out of the chimney pipe.
A cousin said he closed the draft part way on his  which I did.
No more flames.
I figure that a lot of heat was going right up the pipe.
When I check the pipe in the spring there is no buildup of creosote and a handful of ashes in the bottom.
I think that the full bore burn keeps the pipe clean.
As an aside, I have timed the full bore burn to regain temp at 7 to 9 minutes

Always had trouble with my damper sticking closed on my E2300.The other day had a real good chimney fire going. Now the damper works fine!Must have burned off the cresote that was making the damper stick.Alot easier than scraping the cresote off.
