It actually works better than I was expecting. I have a 16" wide 10' long walnut bar top I have been working on. I figured I would try out the drum sander and it works pretty good. The only thing that I didn't like was a barely noticeable snipe on the tail end. It's probably my out feed table that caused that though.

Well that's cool. I haven't tried mine yet but i've got a pile of Red Maple sitting beside the machine waiting to be planed, profiled and sanded into some T&G planking.

A drum sander is one machine that I do not have.  I probably need one, bad  :).

Jake have you used your 718 enough to form an opinion on how it performs, I have been thinking of getting one and would like any input.

It works good as a home molder, good as a sander, but just marginal as a planer and ripsaw. I need to build a sled to use the ripsaw efficiently I guess. The planer is good at hogging off material, but it doesn't leave a very smooth finish. The spiral cutter head would be a big improvement I'm sure, but it's costly.

If your woodmaster doesn't leave a good smooth planed surface, check the height of the cutter knives. All 3 knives should protrude above the cutter head exactly the same . The ripsaw works a bunch better with a sled. The drum sander works great. If you have trouble with snipe, it's probably from the infeed or outfeed table ,or both, bent downward. The optional plastic bed overlay makes a world of difference. I love mine..
