Looking at a used 2008 WPF 8" in good shape with lo, lo rails, electric winch height adjust, and 4 blades. What would be a fair price to pay for the mill? How easily is it taken apart and transported? Thanks in advance.

chorswill9,
Send a pm to member HSV. She used to work for Peterson and may still. She should be able to help with info for you.

btw, welcome to The Forestry Forum!

If nothing's wrong with it, and it isn't overloaded with hours, I would think it would be expected to bring around $20,000. However, I would be looking for a better deal than that. I was looking at one that was all you said, and had a slabber bar attachment, all for $12,000. Alas, I could not raise the cash at the time. The guy had it for sale for several months before he sold it. He had it advertised on Craig's List as well as Peterson's used sawmill web page, and I think, one of the sawmill seller websites.

Have you checked to see what's available on Peterson's web site? They help people who are trying to sell their used Peterson mills, by allowing them to post on their website. What's available changes from time to time, as could be expected.

Can't really help with the Price, but if you were to contact Peterson they would be able to give you an approx price on a new machine, so you can work back from there.

As for the transport, with practice you can get it apart and loaded on a pickup or trailer in about 15 mins. There is really only a handful of bolts to break down the rails, wheels slips into the saw frame to let you move that, and the assorted ond stands and supports just get loaded in around the bigger parts.

When they say "Portable", they mean it. It's often easier to move the mill than a large log, so you pick up the mill and carry/wheel it the next log.

Gday

first off Welcome to The Forum  ;) ;D ;D ;D 8) 8)

With the mill its only an 08 model so its likely not to have done a power of work or being neglected so its condition should still be good to excellent depends on the hrs  ;) Price is what you are willing to pay and the owner is willing to take or wants for it Mate  ;)

Swingers are the most portable mill you could have while still being able to produce good volumes of timber doing it log to log as Ian said Mate  ;) ;D

Hi!

Yep I'm back, moosehunter :) Headed away for a few years to run my own business but have come back in to get ready for the launch of the new model!

chorswill: I think I know the mill that you're looking at and yes I think it's a fair asking price. Because they're manufactured out of durable materials, our mills do tend to remain in excellent condition unless thrashed and by the hours that are on this particular mill, I'd say you'd be assured of a good buy. We do offer service assistance for people who purchase them secondhand and can also provide you access to the owner's area of the website when purchased, that gives you free downloads of operation and service manuals.

Anyone who is looking at purchasing a secondhand mill of any brand should contact the seller and ask for photos if they're not readily available before you go take a look see. So I'd suggest you do the same if you're out of the seller's area.

Aaron's away this weekend in Papua New Guinea (with the big spiders!! oh, and sawmills hehe), but if you're not in too much of a rush and want to ask more specific questions flick him an email: akalan@petersonsawmills.com.

Cheers, Layla.

I might know something about that, but have been sworn to secrecy until it's actually released.  smiley_lipsrsealed

I believe I'll be the star of the first release video that Layla is currently editing though...

Well, Layla, if Peterson ever needs more ideas about more neat attachments and features, I would be happy to lend my expertise. I am always coming up with ideas!  :P

Yep, we had the fortune of having Ian test the new model, 'Junior Peterson' and giving us some sweet user feedback before we go to the final build, it's getting exciting now - videos released soon! Thanks for your offer of ideas Okrafarmer, we're always keen for more of those  :)

Okrafarmer

Ok, we'll be expecting the video soon! Sounds like  nifty little machine. I can't wait for more photos.  :)

Yes, I'm full of ideas, stuff that seems obvious for me to be "the next step" for a swing mill. In many cases, they are ideas that I don't see anyone out there attempting. Things that would make existing swing mill systems more efficient and/or versatile.  ;)

Does Peterson make a dedicated slabber?

HSV

Sure do, Sawdust Lover. Here's a link to the web page: http://petersonsawmills.com/products/dws/ and just click the 'Request a Quote' link on the page if you want any further info or prices :-) Cheers, Layla.
