New to the saw game but was wondering when is it time to replace your sprocket? How do you tell when spurs are worn out. Is it necessary to do the clutch at the same time? sorry so many questions. One more though, how do Herr sprockets hold up?
Thanks to all of you. This site has me hooked on saws now.

bagman, I doubt your as bad as we are on sprockets, they do not get changed until the chain slips :D. Then it goes up on the white board to get a sprocket for that model! We visit our dealer 2 times a month for supplies and parts. Get a sprocket and you will be good! I have saw,s that are 20+ years old that are still active in the inventory of daily users that have never had a clutch put in them. As for your question about Herr sprockets, I have never used anything other than OEM parts on my saw,s, I,m an orange and white fan ;D. Tim

Well now if you have any Stihl small splined clutch drums I don't think you have much choice other than OEM rims .They aren't terrible in price .Only about 50 percent higher than Oregon . ;)

so what you are telling me is that a Herr sprocket is not going to work on my 020av

If it is suppossed to fit it will work .What I was refering to is rim sprockets .You have three different spline sizes ,standard ,small and pico .Standards will interchange between Oregon,GW ,Stihl .PicoI have no idea .Small Oregon will not interchange with Stihl .One is slightly larger ,I think Stihl .

The only thing I've ever seen on the 020AV is a clutch drum with a spur built into it not a rim sprocket system . I think they can be converted to rim drive but I've never personally seen it done .

Thanks Al,  So have you dug out your 020 yet?  I'm waiting for the step by step tear down if you remember

No converting, Stihl shows only the spur setup.

Actually there is a way to do it .Couple folks on another forum figured it out .Granted most folks including myself wouldn't fool with it .

It may have been Baileys if I'm not mistaken that had a set up for carvers wirh a dime nose bar ,1/4" chain and a pico rim drive for a 200T .I don't know if an 020 Av uses the same clutch drum size as  an 020 or 200T or not .

I'll get to that old 020Av eventually .Now it's getting more a matter of time because it looks for the foreseeable future it's 7 days a week at work .Plus a lady just dropped of a Poulan this afternoon with a funky carb making two I need to repair for others .
