I bought the splitter about a year ago from a friend. He gave me a great deal on it. He told me about the leak and that he had tried to fix it by replacing hoses and clamps but it continued to be a problem. The splitter works great but I would love to fix the leak. I am tired of putting a pan underneath it to keep it from leaking on the garage floor when it is not being used. I have had little success locating the source of the leak. The one thing I do know is that it is not leaking from the hydraulic piston.

Give it a thorough cleaning, then watch for signs of oil.  The tank may be cracked or the supply hose may be damaged.

As sawguy suggests.
Then a pic of where it is leaking will help....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that's just typical of 98 percent of all hydraulic systems .

owning many things with fluid, yes expect to see leaks.  some slow and some fast, fast ones easy to find but expensive to fix

One thing to look for on that splitter. I have the same one. On the return stroke it will pull slivers of wood and bark, they will build up under the end of the cylinder. Keep this are clean and it slows down the leak. Won't stop it, but, will slow it down.

See my review on the Oregon Splitter which is basically the same thing. My tank leaked where the axles were welded to the tank. Mine was replaced under warranty.
