As often as not when I feed our horse and mule when I let them out of their stalls the mule will first run off kicking his heels like a colt acting like he thinks he escaped from me then he will trot over to one of his preferred spots and have a good roll. If the ATVs are out of barn he likes the dusty drive. If not he goes to a spot out in the lot past the wood storage barn and rolls there. Everything is really muddy here these days but he doesn't seem to mind.

First you circle the spot like a dog getting ready to lay down

Then you lay your head and neck down on the chosen spot

Then you lay down on your side

Then comes the really fun part

Sometimes you have to stretch to reach that special itchy spot

I have a friend who said her dad told her a mule was worth $100 for every time he'd roll over

Finally you get up and shake it off

It looks like so much fun even the big old (Half Tennessee Walking Horse and half Belgian) horse who rarely rolls had to get in the act

He's a good 1600 lbs but looks like a young colt here

A customer of mine used to have donkeys.

Here the Jack is finding his spot.

That has gotta feel good.

So the colt decided that it wanted some of it too.

OK, so is every donkey happy now?
