We have a TJ 608B with a harvester head and are getting ready to put on a newer Waratah head. I have had some on and off issues with the main computer in the cab and am looking for a used one. I didn't think I would need the main computer since we are putting on a different  dangle head, controls and Waratah computer, but from what I have been told the TJ main computer runs the boom/stick hydraulic valves. There aren't a lot of 608's in the Pacific North West and have seen a lot more in the Eastern States and Canada. If anyone has any ideas on where I could track one down please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

You might call JR at Pape they just did a retrofit computer system on an older 1270 maybe they can help you out.

Thanks for the leads. Do the 608Bs that are configured as a feller buncher use a computer to operate the boom controls or was it only the ones configured with harvester head? Our machine is in good shape but I worry about parts become more difficult to find, thats why I'm looking for a computer just to keep on the shelf. Thanks again for the help.

bushmechanic

I'm not sure on the 608 but I know the 1270's and the 1070's use a TMC system which is a Total Machine Control, all modules link back to a main computer. There is a separate module for the boom control, one for the transmission, one for the chair, and one for the harvesting head.

Id be worried about hydraulic parts besides computer parts, our 1210B if I have a computer go out I'll have to scrap it or retrofit a different system into it. When we were at the JD class we found out there's less then 10% parts available for that machine, our parts guys have told us Deere and Cat will only keep parts up to 10 years.

Mike_M

Yeah the parts availablity really becomes the issue epsecially when your machine uses a computer. We will just take things as they come and in the mean time keep my eyes open. The TJ 608B and John Deere 703 look similiar in specs, are any of the parts interchangeable? I'm guessing probably not computer stuff. Thanks for information guys.

Skeans1

The TJ 608 and JD 753/703 are the same machines with the computer systems I'm not sure what interchanges. Right around the time of the buy out is about the same time iQan would of been bring put into a lot of machines as the master controller for hydraulics as well as the L90 valve, which might be an option if parts for this computer are no longer available.

Mike_M

Thank you. That might be a possible option depending on cost. This machine is from your neck of the woods, just across the river in Washington state.

Skeans1

Was it from Kelso or La Center? We know a few guys that had them, at one point we had one out for a demo when it was still Pacific North in Portland.

Mike_M

Ramco out of La Center, WA was the previous owner. I talked with the guy a couple of times shortly after we bought it.

Skeans1

We know the owner pretty well, that machine spent a lot of time over here doing Fibre jobs, the old operator is sad gone after a chain shot incident.
If you decide you want to swap the stuff over just yell I know where to source the stuff in Portland for the iQan and L90 valves.

fill us in on the chain shot

Here's the link to the download for a full read basically it was a once in a million chance that happened, but since then our heads are required to all be guarded up no seeing the bar or the tip of the bar.

over the years i have fussed at a few over there fire wood machines either store bought or home made. when i say chain shot i get a blank stare.... how did you like the rottne? i have an older one with a keto head

Mike_M

That was such an unfortunate accident. I knew it happened in Washington but didn't realize it was their operator. I sent you a PM.

bushmechanic

Thank-you Skeans1 that was a very interesting and eye opening read. I used to think I was safe in the cab... until now. How unfortunate for the operator, sad.

Skeans1

That stuff works great on a landing but when falling and processing in a thinning it doesn't work.

Mike_M

I would be interested in pricing out the IQAN and L90 valves. Any ballpark idea what kind of cost a guy would be looking at?
