Just cut them on the halves.  That means you are even.  If the other guy then wants extra services, you can then  price those appropriately.
Why?

I did not see any indication the owner wanted any lumber or wanted to get in the lumber selling business. I am confident he could use the money but may not be pressed for it.

As mentioned throughout buying and selling for cash will work every time - if the seller wants to sell and if the buyer has cash. As Starmac mentioned there is sometimes a market for bartering if conditions are right for both parties.

I'm not pushing for it as a standard business practice but I encourage people to be flexible. Some will, some won't just like some won't saw mobile or saw special orders. Nothing wrong with that either - they may not have the equipment or it simply is not part of their business plan.

I sell things on CL and recently lumber.  I have people want to trade all the time.  Will you take my old car?  Will you take my homemade hot sauce(today)?  Will you take etc, etc?  I don't trade unless it's something I'm currently looking for.  I have never traded anything.

As far as bartering for the logs, I will definitely be doing it.  I already have some logs on my trailer.  As soon as we decide what the agreement will be, I will have a great supply of logs coming in.  They have lots of walnut trees on the farm!
