Hi Guys,

I have been offered a TreeFarmer Log Skidder (don't know model number), built approx. 1975-76, cable, weighs somewhere around the 15,400 lbs.

I want to know if nayone has any info on these machines, or pics. They arn't all that popular in Australia and  the only info I know is off the treefarmer web site.

I would really like to know the operating weight - real important, I don't want to get in trouble over loading the truck every time i have to cart it around.

Merry Christmas

If you can get me the year, model, tire size, and engine, I can get it for you.
I am a true TREE HUGGER, if I didnt I would fall out!  chet the RETIRED arborist

If that brand isn't all that popular in Australia, how is the parts availability and servicing gonna be for you?

The guy who owns it has already had to get some parts from the US, but its all real simple engineering.

The model number is C6BD, serial number is 4836. The engine is a 2 stroke GM 353. The tyres are 18.4-34's.

I don't know the year.

Thanks heaps mate!

Hey, that is a good skidder. I have the C5D, 5 cyl duetz.
I would expect the C6D to run a 453, not a 353 but you never can tell.
I can give you the Phone Number of a real good Tree farmer parts dealer in Maine, USA.  Just let me know. They know the twig farmer like they built it. They ship too.

Also, I happen to have a Tree farmer parts manual, and it shows exploded parts diagrams and the numbers of each part. VERY valuable resource! I would gladly help if I can.

One last thing, the C6D  should be closer to 20,000 lbs US....The tires are small,  so maybe 18,000.....But I think my C5D is around 15,000 lbs....
I think if it runs well, you should take it. Lots of parts can be had at the local auto parts store, things like U-joints,  filters, hoses, starters.....You have NAPA stores there?

Them 353 engines run flat out like a lizzard drinking mate! Haha!

G'day Oldtimer,

Thanks heaps for your reply!

Whats the main difference between your C5D and the C6D - apart from the engine?

Is it possible to either scan in the manual or photocopy it and send it over (by snail mail or email)? I would happely pay for it.

Whats a NAPA store? We have loads of automotive stores with uni joints etc...

The previous owner tells me that the 353 uses about 20ltrs (about 5 gal) of fuel a day (about 8-9 hours) and pulls about 3-4 ton per turn.

Could you give me the details of that good twig (I mean tree) farmer parts dealer in Maine?

Merry Christmas

Simon

My C5D is smaller, by 3-4 thousand lbs. Think "Mini-Me"....
The dealer in Maine is called  (Or was called!) "Daveco". It is a  hole in the wall type place, but they know their shizzle there, and they have it in stock.
My manual is like 400 pages. Be easier to know what I am looking for,  then scan and send those specific pages. I don't want your money.
2 cords US is about right for a good running C6D, that would be about 5,500 US lbs. for hardwood. More is possible, but not wise.

What does it  run for a winch? Gearamatic? Can-Car?

Here in the USA, old Tree Farmers are relics of the bygone days. No one wants to pull a cable no more. John Deere 648 Grapples baby, A/C, CD player, heated seats, cellphone power source, GPS, like a day in the park. Whats $170,000.00 these days anyway? Hell, lets buy three of 'em!   Haha!
Hey,I just recieved an "AC/DC"  DVD for X-mas. "Live at Donington  England, '91 Monsters of rock tour"  Sweet!

I'd like to see Austrailia myself, but it seems everything down there wants to eat you or just kill you with venom. Not for me. Worst I have to deal with here are mobs of turkeys blocking the skid road.Ha!

OT.

Hey, Use the Personal Messanger to contact me direct.I gave you the phone number to the tree farmer  parts dealer, but the censor here took it out right quick. Free exchange of info is not allowed I guess.

If the PM is not gonna fly, then E-mail me @ Pamrich_1@Yahoo.com.

G'day Oltimer,

Here 'down-under' not every thing wants to eat you or bite you. I havn't seen a snake for a few weeks (I've been on holidays) and we only get sharks around my neck of the woods (in the ocean of course - and sometimes the rivers).

The biggest problem I have with the newer machines is that they are too big for our operation, but what the hey, while I am buying a couple of those JD's, I can get a nice new Merc. bogie drive, twin steer to cart it around on. NOT!

Does your manual have a spec page? Something with operating weights and all that stuff?

Its got a gearmatic winch. Looks heavy duty enough. We have only heard good things about them here.

You said about 2 chords - how long is a chord? What kind of ground are you travelling over?

U got a pic of you skidder?

How old are u? 'AC/DC' isn't my cup of tea, but what ever rocks you boat.

We have bush turkeys over here (a protected species - read go to jail for a long time if harmed) that arer not related to your turkeys and are as tough as nails. I think the best bet is to cook the bush turkey with a brick and when the brick is soft enough, throw the turkey away and eat the brick :D :D :D.

Merry christmas

No spec sheet, sorry.

I don't have pics of my C5D, but if you look in the "logging methods" post the admins put up, you should be able to find one. Also, do a google search on Tree farmers, and "Used forestry equipment", then you'll be bound to find pics.

I am 36.

A cord is 128 cubic feet, roughly 5,000 lbs in weight. So two cords would be around 10,000 lbs. As I said, more is possible, but not wise.
My C5D would only go one cord per hitch, maybe a bit more in the snow.

gearmatics are good wenches the one one my paps 'jack is pretty heavy biult workes great.
as for the 353 the fuel consumtion isnt bad at all
we use a smallers kidder to get the bigger skidder and we dont burn much fuel but you definately want to wear earmuffs when ya run it (personal expeirience)
