Have a 562 xp I posted about a long time ago.  Has been in a state of disassembly on my bench for a few months.  Finally got back to looking at it.  It had a torn boot which caused it to run lean for a period of time.

Brought it to a shop and was told it was too expensive to fix and I should get a new saw.

Was returned in a box in many pieces.  Pulled cylinder off and have pics of piston.  Looking for opinions as to whether or not I need a new piston or just rings.
Want to make one parts order.

Also, given my current state of disassembly.  Is it worth doing the crankcase gasket while I am working?  Or is this just doing work for work's sake?
Thanks in advance.

If it were mine i would put a new piston in it. We've got 3 of the 562s where i work, strong running saws, you will like it when you get it up and running.

2 other things.
Compression was 110 psi which is why I am assuming it needs rings/piston.
Brand recommendation for piston brand or should I stick with oem?
Thanks

I swear they teach that line at some small engine repair school - "Not worth fixin, but I got a new one right here we will sell ya".  Heard it myself when all the saw needed was the carb set back to factory, I told them that since I was the one who un set it and goofed it up.  Brought it to another shop $15 later, which included a new plug, the saw was back in business.  Guess what shop will NEVER get a cent from me?

Personally I would do the piston and rings at a minimum.  If the jug does not look polished then I would do that too.  Had good luck with a Chinese knock off on a 660 once, jug and piston were $60 or so, but today I would go OEM.

I'm not sure anyone sells aftermarket pistons or cylinders for the 562xp, you may have to go with OEM.

I was wrong !!!!!! There are aftermarket pistons available for the 562xp. Meteor is the brand i would go with if buying aftermarket.

Here is the inside of the cylinder.
Or, at least, the best I could do.

Would you go meteor over oem?
Amazon has piston/ring set by little red barn...never heard of it but has good reviews...any experience?

For myself i would buy OEM  over meteor on that particular saw. I have had good luck with meteor, i have a 288xp that has a meteor piston. Make sure the cylinder has no aluminum transfer and is clean, i can't see very well in the picture. I've heard of that company but i've never bought anything from them.
