he has some ancestry that relates him to Vikings, and this is a symbol of 8 tribes.  Or so I am told.  I would not have known otherwise.  making his bike his own.  painted and engraved fuel cap.

That is a Vegvisir or runic compass. You can read about it HERE. Some say Icelandic, some say Norsk, but the truth is, they are really the same cultures back in those early days, Iceland having been settled by Vikings form Norway and Denmark. Over time the languages became different and the Icelandic culture developed in it's own way.
