The First 72 years of childhood is always the hardest.
My advice on aging gracefully... ride fast bikes and date faster women, drink good tequila, practice your draw daily, be honest and fair in your dealings, but suffer not fools. Eat a hearty breakfast, and remember, ALL politicians are crooks.

Different but I see nothing disrespectful in the way it was done. Looks like the singer just added a bit of his local culture to the rendition.

I was surprised but I guess I shouldn't be of all the people that did not have their hand over their heart or even pay attention.

I do too but this is one of the better of the "off traditional versions"

Pete,

I was somewhat concerned about his hat then I remember when I was in high school band and we played the anthem at ball games we were told we/performers were not to remove our hats. I think he was complying with normal protocol and etiquette. I checked and found it was because we were in uniform and the hat was part of our uniform. You can make a case either way here whether he should have removed it but I give him the benefit of the doubt he was not intentionally being disrespectful. The ones talking in the stands were rude but I did not see them with hats on so at least the remembered that.

Scouts is the same. we pattern after military. Some troops have a green or red beret as part of a uniform and if it is the official uniform of the troop, they are to be worn during and participating in flag ceremonies.  any non uniform cap should be removed.  I had an older man stop at my table many years ago in an IHOP and asked if it embarrassed by wife that I was wearing my cap inside.  I respectfully told him that I had never been taught to remove my cap in any building except for a church, and therefore no it did not embarrass my wife.  I think he thought he was doing his civic duty.  I was very respectful.  he left with a smile on his face.  in this case I believe it would have set a good example and shown respect if this man had taken off his hat.  I believe the "bandit" only took his off for one thing, and it was not the anthem.

I got a similar question when I was a PISC and had to research removing hats when under arms (which included a duty belt) and as I remember the USMC/Naval regs said something to the effect headwear was to be worn when under arms except in dining halls when a meal was being served or a religious service was in effect. If/When we had a prayer outside we removed our covers till the prayer was over.

Not to keep comparing BSA to the military, but no hats in the dining hall at camp.  Full time job of 1 adult each meal was reminding the young men.  part of the mission of scouts is to impart some discipline to our future leaders
