I hope this is the right location for this post, but I am wondering if anyone can direct me to some parts. I have a Ryobi AP 12 planer that needs the blade binders. They are used to clamp the blades in place and they are a discontinued item. I would really appreciate it if someone can direct me to a pair of them. The part number is 1940008.

When my Delta planer chewed up a gear last year I was in the same boat. Someone pointed out that it is very similar to a grizzly and sure enough that gear worked. In the past I've noticed some Ryobi stuff looks mighty close to some Makita stuff, might be worth looking to see if there is a similar model and part.

some of the changeable carbide blades come with there own clamps/holder so the disposable blade can be changed.  or if you have one, maybe a fab or machine shop can make you one.

Ryobi Blade Binder 1940008 | Senior Fossil Parts
Senior Fossil Parts are out of stock. I will check similar planers such as the Makita. Are there any model numbers that i should check?  I would like to find something before having one machined. It is actually stamped metal. I do have one that could be used as a pattern but it wouldn't be cheap. Thanks everyone!

The Ryobi blades have elongated holes for the holdown but I don't see that on the Makita. Maybe I could buy the Makita hold downs and blades?  Does anyone have any other experience with these?  thanks

is the new part much diff. than the old.  I would go to a tool store and compare to the newer model.  some times the new part will work in place of the discontinued part.  Did you loose or break the old one.  might check on CL or somewhere to see if anyone has a nonworking old one for parts.  May just have to go buy a new one if you really need it.  If someone just gave it to you and you are trying to fix it, good luck.

I am in the process of buying it from a friend and discovered that it doesn't have the hold downs. He lifted them for another Ryobi :)... I would buy them if they were available but they aren't. I have been all over the internet and am even hoping to find one that someone burned up. I also have a fabricator friend but can't expect him to do it for free. So my preference is to just buy originals or replacement. thanks

you are wise to figure this out in advance.  sounds like the friend did the same thing to get the parts and is wanting to sell you the planer and be in the same boat.  you can buy cheap 12 inch planers for 300 dollars, and nicer name brands for 600 dollars.  grizzly used to sell heavy duty but cheap imports but until the tariffs are taken out of their price, they are not the bargain they used to be.  with all the work you have already put into this, and those of us around the country, sounds like it may not be that great a deal.  Unless he is going to all but give it to you.  from your description I would not pay more than 100 bucks for the thing, me personally.  If something else breaks in the future, you may have the same problem sourcing parts.

Speaking of Grizzly, do they make a knockoff of the Ryobi? I know they have some machines that are knockoffs of Delta machinery that is not being made now. People are using them for parts for other import machines.

Kind of makes a guy wonder why he robbed the parts off of that one to make another one work in the first place?
