Experienced sharpeners, what do I have here?  Is this a blade that has had the hook angle changed?

You can see where I ran it through the sharpener and ground the face and back side of the teeth. The 4° CBN wheel didn't touch the bottom of the gullet.  Will this blade cut?

This blade has only been sharpened by Resharp, I have not sharpened it previously

I would say your wheel does not match the gullet. The blade will saw like that. The next time through your CBN sharper might  the rest of the gullet.

It is a mystery to me.  I only have 4° and Turbo 7° blades.  The box this came out of was supposed to be 4° blades from Resharp.  You are absolutely right the 4° wheel doesn't match the gullet.

My guess is that a T7 slipped into the 4° box and went through Resharp as a 4° band.  It has become a 4° no matter anyway. :D

 On purpose I sharpen my blades like that to make the gullet shallower , cut straighter in tough wood.  Is that a burr right on the tip, doesn't look right. Steve

The angle of the photo makes the left tooth look odd. This blade is still on the sharpener at this point, hasn't been de-burred or final set done.  You might also be seeing a bit of oil on the blade.  These teeth have just exited the sharpener.

   That should work ok. It ground the face, back face and the gullet in the most critical area where they usually fracture.
   A couple of months ago I bought 5ea.. 747 blades to try.  They seem to saw no different than my regular Lenox 10 degree blades I use. I have been sharpening them to 4 degree face and same back face angle as my regular Lenox 10 degree blades. They look about the same and work fine. Just as well use them up.

I will get that look when the wheel is not cutting deep enough, so that might be the case too.

I recently switched band brands and when trying to reshape the grind wheel on my Cat Claw to match I get that pattern and bands still cut well. I'm reluctant to grind deeper just to get rid of that pattern. If I were more skilled at grind wheel shaping I suppose I could avoid it altogether.

Kellogg;

    I have a Cats Claw sharpener and am getting quite familiar with it.  The cam is what determines the shape of the gullet, not the grinding stone. It is the drag motion that shapes the gullet. Cooks may have a cam for your new brand of blade, or they can make one. Contact them.

The OP wasn't using cat claw, so I think he is right about the different blade getting mixed in.  The last post by Wintergreen mountain is half right and half wrong....the cam makes the profile, but the shaping of the grind wheel on the cat claw will have a large part to play in the shape of your blade.  Banjo

Banjo picker;

   That is true. If the stone isn't shaped correctly to match the swipe it will not grind correctly. Thanks for pointing that out.

No problem Leon.  I just got the dual tooth setter.  Finally got tired of the single....although it is super accurate.  The dual setter takes some getting used to....but I am learning it.  Banjo

Used the suspicious looking blade first thing today.  I was just curious if it would cut.  Am pleased to say it cut nearly 500 bdft of red and white oak this morning.
