Was thinking about loaning a saw to a good neighbor with a bit of a job to do
He is a good neighbor and has helped me out for sure
Then I remember reading the horror stories of the mate who used straight fuel  >:(
Then it hit me....Give him a small can of you're special ratio/additive /octane...etc
Sleep easy
Only the chain/bar/pull chord etc to worry about
Cheers

A lot of people have borrowed my log splitter. I always supply 5 gallons of fuel because I don't want them running ethanol. I tell them that my 'charge' for using the equipment is that they use my gas, check the oil every time they re-fuel, keep it covered when not in use, and clean all wood chips and dirt off at the end of each. I would do the same, and more for the saw, but most layman don't know how to sharpen a chain. You might make a new chain your 'charge'. If he has helped you out, that means he is a good sort.
Good Luck.

OK, maybe I'm the woodcutter now.
I work with wood, There is a rumor I might be a woodworker.

There used to be only two people I loaned saws to.The gas can full bottle of oil full and a fresh chain on the saw. I am pretty picky who uses my equipment. Over the years I have pickup nice Stihl saws at garage sales or estate sales and now both of these folks have there own saw that I supplied them with.

There is only a small handfull of people I would even consider loaning one of my saws to and they all have much more experience with saws than I do. I would also send a gallon of my mixed fuel to use, cheap insurance as stated.

If i've got the time i usually go and do whatever cutting they need for them. I've had some good neighbors over the years, good neighbors are priceless and become alot like family.

It hasn't come up yet, but I'd be *very* reluctant to lend out one of my saws. Maybe if I had a junker, but I have no such thing. I wouldn't borrow a saw either. There's too much that can go wrong with these things, and too easy for hard feelings to develop. Like Pine Ridge, I'd much rather just go over and run the saw myself. I don't mind helping, and if I break something, I only have myself to blame.

HolmenTree

I don't have a problem loaning out one of my saws as long as my fuel can goes with it too.
It's just my bar/chain I have a problem with. :D

Thanks for the input Guys   smiley_beertoast
As a tradesman my tools of trade are valuable items that would only be loaned on a
trust /obligation basis.
Yep Ixkllr , very careful about which one to loan. The "mate" would need to be a V good one you trust with you're beloved machines.
But the main idea was to gift the fuel. You're fuel to get you through this difficult process
with the least impact on you're prized machines.
Selfish a bit but when you consider all the effort to get them going just right,
it's the least you can do. Or just as Pine Ridge stated ..Do it for them
This I have done to save my gear many times.

I just loaned my brushcutter out to my uncle who is notorious for killing lawn equipment, specifically told him to call me when he needed to refuel- in hind sight i should have sent along a can of gas.

It came back with half a bag of stihl polycut blades and a full tank of mixed gas... whew. Now i gotta drain it so i can store it empty hanging up and it won't leak.

Mad Professor

This is why everyone should have at least one Poulan Wild Thing loaner.

Air Lad

Great idea Mad Professor
I wonder what the chances would be of it coming back better than before
Never know mate
