I finally got the new mill fired up yesterday and put my first log on it. Since most of my business is slabs currently I thought it fitting to start off with a nice crotch Walnut.  It will take sometime to get use to all the controls and not walking with the mill but that will come in time. I videoed the first few slabs off the log. It was very nice not having to trim the sides of the log to fit through the mill, a problem I had daily with my LT35.

Nathan,

You had me biting my nails at about 1:43 and 7:20 on your video. First I thought the log was going to kick back because it looked like the arms were just holding by fingernails. When you turned the log because of the sweep at the crotch I thought the log was going to flip off over the side supports. I was surprised you weren't using the drag back at least on the first cuts.

Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work.

I will use the drag back, give me some slack, lots of controls on this new mill, getting use to everything,
I have turned over tons of crotch logs, I could probably turn them in my sleep  ;D

Nathan,

Not being critical here bud. Just a nail biter to see that. :D :D

Yeah, I bet getting used to that drag back is like teaching your teenage son to drive where you are over in the passenger seat stomping holes in the floorboard looking for an imaginary brake. :D :D :D :D

You got accuset II also didn't you? That will be another learning experience compared to the SS on the old LT35. I did not realize you did not have a debarker on your old mill before either. A whole lot of new moving parts here to get familiar with but we know it is coming. ;)

Yep first time with the de barker and the AccuSet is a whole other ball game, lots to learn here and get use to watching the mill run and not walking by its side,

just wait until you  cut some 34 in slabs , it is fun  , trying to position it just right ,, we got our lt-40 wide last july  just learning about the accuset 2 is fun,,,  still havent figured it all out yet , just learning the pattern mode out ,, we went from manual to this  so it was a huge learning curve,

Sometimes while cutting live edge slabs, I skip using the debarker because of the gouge it leaves. It would probably get planned okie sanded out, but I just don't like seeing it

Also with the debarker you can likely expect it to trip off if you get it in a bind like when it hits a knot or with too much increasing flare if you don't remember to loosen the tension along so go ahead and research where the breaker is to reset if/when that happens.

I think one of my favorite things about accuset 2 is the reference position return. It seems a lot of
my friends never read the manual. In manual mode, hit the funky square button top left. the buttons
1 - 4 can be programmed to move the machine to a specific height. Just tap the up down lever in the proper
direction and the mill goes to that height. I have mine set at 1", 12" 24" and all the way up less an inch for log loading.

Great video Nathan!  You probably won't be using the drag back feature much  :D :D.  And you may have to install an umbrella at your control station to keep the sun and rain off. That mill appears to be a little longer than the 35 when you account for the stationary controls.  I look forward to more videos.
