First of all, I'd never saw a pitch tsunami until I sawed this dead tree.
I had a very dead dry Tamarack tree that I took down to create my new bi-level multifunction condo deer shack addition! I used the old woodmizer to create my building materials from a tree that was taken down as a hazard, and now stands once again not 75 yards away! It's like reintreenation repurposing! I also turned the stump into a chair over looking our frog pond for Tammy. :)

Seems like softwood with a little rot on the outside really likes to build up on the blade.   Steve

If that tree had lived on, I suspect it was near an injury, it would have made fat lighter. I find hardened pockets of resin in fir that make fat lighter. Like in southern pine. The wood is saturated in resin.

When I was sawing it, and first saw the pitch oozing out like waves along that shake crack. By the time I got the camera to it it had subsided. Never saw anything like that before, but then again, I was a hardwood sawyer

WOW! I thought mine was pitchy. That would make my SYP look like poplar.

I wish I could of caught on camera when I first saw it. It was actually pulses or waves of flow. For a few seconds. I dont know where it was coming from. No cavity really.

Sawing dead western larch is pretty much all I do and I've resorted to turning the bottom 10' ish of the tree into firewood because of the pitch. Once above that it saws really nice! This one's not real bad but the best photo I have on hand.
