While awaiting the fellow we reluctantly sawed poles for to show up and collect his 704 bf of lumber I cobbled up a contraption to load trailers with stacks of 42" wide boards between fenders.  It worked well but if I were to make another, I would probably make it 32-34" wide so that I could get two stacks between the fenders.

Notice that the forks are above the boards.  I made sure to have more than 3" of dunnage under the boards when loading on the trailer.

That looks like it works very well. Good job!

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Can you whip up something for me to help with loading into box trucks and enclosed trailers?  Had two show up last week and one was getting 6x8 - 16' white oak beams!!!

Southside, I'm surprised you did not Lull them into position.

Good idea, book marked that one for later.  My trailers both have fenders  and I have  some pipe in the treasure pile.

:D The old girl did her part, but one was quite fancy, complete with a nice, slippery, plywood ramp....

To load box truck; set one end on 'tail gate'. Lift end of package [that you set on ground] and shove it in the truck part way and push in with tip of fork against a flat block, etc.

I just use two machines when loading box trucks or dump trucks. Have them back up under the load as far as they can that will allow your forks to drop out of the way and shove it in with the other machine.

That works @caveman I just strap the lumber and dump it in easy as I tilt the forks down and pull out. It usually stays pretty flat.

I use a jib hoist I made from steel channel for unloading logs from trailers with fenders. It also works for lumber, though adding bars underneath like you have is a good idea.

I just use straps/slings.
We do the same. Occasionally we have to put something between the strap and the load so that it lifts w/o messing up the stack.
