I started using pallets to sticker my wood on. Thanks for all the information I read regrarding this. The first ones I did I leveled cement blocks to set them on. Is this the way that most people do it or would it be alright to just set the pallet on " level " ground ? This is for personal use framing material, SYP. I know I " could " do it but don't want any regrets later when its time to use it .

I worked in Augusta several years ago on a shut down, and I don't recall the ground being too "level". 😏 Seriously, if you don't start off on a flat surface you are going to be disappointed with your end result.  I would level my supports I was starting on as best as I could.  Banjo
Never explain, your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe you any way.

Thanks. Deep down I guess I knew better just looking for a short cut or maybe just a little lazy. ;D

If you put pallets of lumber on the ground, before long, there will be ants and termites in it.  Been there done that.

So getting it up on concrete, blocks, deep gravel, crossties, etc, serves several purposes.

YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust

I didn't even think about the bugs having easier access !! Thanks.

IN the shed where I have my pallets, there are concrete pads in front of the side and rear sliding doors.  The pads are 4'x20'.  Perfect for the pallets.  In the new storage building I'm building on my new place, I will have a similar pad running the length of building- 80' on one side.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!
