wow there is a lot of great ideas & information here, I am new to sawmills & such just got a woodland mills 122 set up on my 15 acre property, started cutting a few trees for milling lumber, 1st thought was why did go small, I know why..$, sure have some nice trees that are just a bit big for that 122, after some time thinking about it a chainsaw to quarter logs seems obvious..then i come here & benefit from a bunch of experience. thank you all for sharing such great info, i love this forum, merry christmas!

Excellent responses everyone! Sounds like freehand cutting is the way to go. Now I'm trying to figure if the Husqvarna rancher chainsaw I have could take a bar big enough to quarter this tree. I'd say a 32-36" bar would do.
