I have a Skidder Franklin 405 powershift from 1997, without an engine. Does anyone know which model of engine can be used on this machine. I know it's a cummings, but I don't know what the specific model is.
The only information I have is the one in the image below.
Thanks

My 1992 has a 6BT in it.  Try calling Forestry Construction in Goode, VA they will be able to help you out.
Franklin buncher and skidder
JD Processor
Woodmizer LT Super 70 and LT35 sawmill, KD250 kiln, BMS 250 sharpener and setter
Riehl Edger
Woodmaster 725 and 4000 planner and moulder
Enough cows to ensure there is no spare time.

I have a 405, 1994 model and it has a 3.9 Cummins.  Very handy size machine.  I've heard of later machines having 5.9s but have never personally seen one.

Im fairly certain it will be an industrial 6BT with an SAE2 bellhousing and a p7100 pump.

If im correct on that part you can use a dodge 12v motor but will need the block adapter from a 1990s cummins powered F750 or other such truck.  Or the whole engine.  They were about 160 hp but nothing to stop you from making as much as you want.

Where does it say 405 ? Data plate says 170-560 which where 6BT engine models. My 405 was a 4BT, good machine, they shouldn't have stopped making those Franklin's.

I am sure they would have continued to make them --- had the company been solvent.

That tag is only for the ROPS. Google the machine and go by that and maybe Ritchie Bros might have some data on it also.

Bakers in OH is the place to call for anything Franklin, each serial # had an individual line sheet, they can pull it right up and tell you.

The serial number is stamped in the frame somewhere. Can't remember where.
