I'm running 7/39 at .022 to .025 max set.  I personally do not like such a wide set at .030 or so, as it allows too much sawdust spillage, at least for me.

I set the band height at the intersection of where the gullet transitions to the face, as there is a distinct slope beak and it makes band height easy to reproduce.  This puts the bottom of the gullet about 1/16" below the clamp.

I always sharpen then set.  This allows the true measurements  to be made from the corners of fully formed teeth.

When sharpening, make sure all tooth corners are chisel edged, very well formed, and square.

If not sure, run the band through the setter twice, and watch the gauges.

The bands should leave a very smooth cut.

If you are sharpening and then setting you should have to over set the inside teeth a few thousandth to compensate for the burr left from the grinder.

Do you worry about trying to remove the burr? Is it possible? I notice that it is not as noticeable as it was with the old drag sharpener.

I do not. I don't think it makes any significant difference in the setting process. I have tried to measure burr with a digital caliper And concluded that it would contribute less than .001 difference in the set if that. Of course that is with my burrs and my procedure.

Being that the outermost portion of the tip is just a point on the edge of the tip, I also think that when the tooth is pushed past the gauge on my setter, That portion which would contribute to any measurement would probably be broken off.

I remove mine with a carbide, when I spin the band around to get to the weld.  Since my bands are all out of sequence at the weld, it's something I have to do anyway.
