Hey All! Was out running my Timberjack 217 on the weekend and noticed the transfer case moving around more then I ever recalled. Took a look and the lower mount on the transfer case had cracked off. On closer inspection, previous owner had it brazed before so i guess not first time this has happened. I have the NP Transfer case ( NP 201 I believe). Is this a common thing to happen? Any suggestions on replacement case? I would like to replace the case instead of having it welded if i can. Anything from a truck I could use? I heard the NP201 is a modified case from some older trucks. Besides that the skidder ran great. I'm in Ontario Canada. Thanks!

Np201 is ANCIENT and you'll probably struggle to find one anymore.  International used them but only one I ever saw was a medium duty dodge marmon like conversion.  It was divorced with a output yoke parking drum.

Id tig it with nyrod 99 and a preheat/postheat.  No problem.

I have no connection to it but I seen the other day a timberjack transfer case on kijij in sudbury, on.  Not sure what model it is from.

I saw that one. It had the integrated brake inside the T-case. Not the hydraulic drum brake like mine has.

Look for one off of an IH 1600series 4x4. I have one. 1964. I would give it to you (the t-case. It's been removed and in the weeds.) if you can come get it. I believe it to be the one that you are looking for but I am tech challenged. I can just barely take a picture with my smart phone. I am fairly sure that it's exactly what you're looking for. PM me and we'll go from there. This came from a flat bed
winch truck and the first place that it was delivered to was camp Pendelton USMC. The only reason that I know for certain is that I know where the "Line Setting Ticket" was located and was able to to do some research on it. Of coarse with IH, nothing is straight forward. That ticket shows different build codes than you would think should be normal and it's definitely not at all easy to decipher. I just happen to be decent at 4x4's and builds, just nowhere near the best.
Oh, its got a low output on the rear, the same height as the front, and this one has a inline to the input rear pto for the bed mounted 32k winch. I hate sell the t-case, but I can't see my practical use for it anymore. My personal plans for this truck have changed. Any way, sorry for the long post, PM me.

If it is what is needed, I'm all about it. Even though it's cast iron and old, that doesn't mean it can't have a good (useful) home.

Besides, I'm getting older myself all of the time!

One of the last times I was In Harolds logging, they had an empty timber jack case.  Years ago, but I'm guessing that it's not a high volume piece.  If they don't have it still they probably could help you find one that fits.
They're in Hamden Maine and the number is 207 942 8331

Regarding welding it, I would disassemble the case and weld the pieces back together with a high nickel rod, or TIG it if you like. 309 stainless will work as well.   but you will have to get all of the brass filler out of the base metal.  Welding over the brass will incur nothing but unnecessary difficulties

I've had good luck in the past with messer eutectic Nickel rods they come in several flavors, machinable, "semi-machineable" and "un" machinable, I don't remember what the numbers are now. Id preheat it to burn out any oil/grease in the casting. And I'd have the covers or output housings in place on the outside chance it wants to pull a little.

when we have problems with any ofour timberjacks we take it to bull powertrain in sudbury, they might be able to help
