Stihl 08S Bar Questions

Greetings, I'm a new member to this site and I spent some time searching the forums for the answers to my questions without any luck. But, it appears that there are plenty of knowledgeable experts who may have the answers.

I inherited a Stihl 08S in great running condition. However, it came to me with an 84DT, 3/8 pitch, .050 gauge chain mounted on a 24" bar with a .063 groove. It took me a while to figure out why the chain wouldn't stay in the groove.

I've been looking for a new bar and chain for my old saw. I was hoping to find a cross-reference list of compatible new bars to old but have only wasted time looking for that. I like the 24" length, probably with a semi-skip sequence. My saw has the old 8 gear sprocket, and it looks like a 14 mm tail mount. So, are there compatible bars out there? What would you recommend for my 08S?

Welcome! IIRC the 08S uses the Oregon E031 mount but they are getting hard to find. The bar you would want would be 240RNDE031 for .050 chain, 243RNDE031 for .063. I don't know if they are still in production.
