Picked up this generac generator on the curbside for garbage... converted the fuel from propane to gas.               ....engine is 32hp with starter and looks like new..              .... total cost,  homemade intake with fittings $25....BOOM 8)

That's a win alright. What will you do carry 9kg bottles around with your mill?

Vautour

@ JoshNZ... it has now been converted to gasoline for that reason to not carry those bottles..

Oh haha. American gas not NZ gas  :D

What brand is it.  Those generator engines run at 1800 RPM most times, if it has 32hp at 1800 rpm it will have lots of torque.  Steve

That is likely a 3600 rpm engine from a standby generator, it will probably have a tapered shaft with no keyway so you will need to be creative.

@ladylake... not one marking on it so i don't know what brand it is.. has similarity's as a kohler command...                                         @sawguy21.... tks for that info... i had to cut the generator shaft to separate the two and that small stub stayed on the engine so it's not tapered any more and can see the end of the tapered shaft and will weld them together..                                                                    @   RAYAR.... i'v got two mills on the go... this engine goes on the smaller manual mill that i'm working on now...my bigger mill is on the back burner.

Oh, I didn't know you started another mill unless this is the first mention of it, or did I miss your post about it?

it came off a generator so it wont have side load on the bearings on the shaft , you will burn the bearings up quickly , dont ask how i know , but it was an oily mess and parts flying everywhere ,,,  no side load ,,

I used a generator motor on a box wood splitter . The taper on the shaft is the same as a morse taper on a drill bit or tail stock . Bore out a lov joy or pulley a little red loc tite  and a 3/8 bolt and washer it was good to go .

@jmouton .. tks for pointing that out,i'll add a small shaft with pillar blocks and love joy to fix that problem ... Gearbox... good idea.... tks guys

Bore that lov joy a little under sized so the bolt will tighten up on the coupling .

Pretty sure this engine will be a Robin Subaru, or at least a joint venture between Generac and Robin.

I've had 2 generac generators, one I still have.  Both always ran well as long as I didn't let it sit for long periods of time.  The carbs always got clogged, but thats my fault.  They both have/had generac motors.

That is likely what he has, Subaru no longer builds air cooled stationary engines. If it is going to sit best to use Seafoam or a similar product in the gas, small engine carbs are not very forgiving

Never heard of Robin Subaru before but did a little recherche and looking at pictures it does seems to be the maker,  have similar parts and location, oil filter, intake manifold, starter, etc

It is a fact that Robin Subaru disbanded operations and sold off various select engines to other manufacturers. For example Kubuta bought some of Robins models and are now manufacturing them.
Robin did in fact have a hand in building and designing these engines initially. Perhaps Generac bought that design as did Kubota and others and is now manufacturing the engine in house.
Robin Subaru built engines that rivaled Honda, I have 4 of them in various pieces of equipment including a single cylinder diesel in a generator. They are excellent, too bad that they decided to cease manufacturing.
