Will felling spikes (inner and outer) from a 462 fit on a 461?

ehp

never looked but one of my new 462;s came with dual dogs and it cut 1 tree and that second spike was taken off and never seen again. On the weekend if I get a chance I will check and look , I got lots of both saws here

never looked to close but my 461 spikes are not the same length as my 462 spikes and built different

Ed, which spike and why?

Im a little bit different than most so here is MY reason  on spikes . First I when I started falling timber the saws I used had no falling spikes but no one in that area used spikes on their saws, new saw came and the spikes were taken off saw before the saw cut its first tree , next is if I got to use the spikes to cut Im going to file my saw cause its dull . now here is the hard one for most to believe but its a proven fact , you want to cut as much wood as close to the power head as you can so you cut your far side wood then draw your saw towards you when falling on the stump , you will be surprised at how much more wood the saw cuts in the same amount of time . All my saws now have a small spike on them but mainly its to help keep the saw upright when its riding in the pickup or on the skidder , Like I said its just me and its what I like . I see lots of guys with the big huge dual spikes on their saws and they got to run a 4 inch longer bar than me because the spikes that up so much space

Being a collector/restorer I think you need to look at a snap shot of era the saws were built .For example large displacement saws with longer bars were made for old growth stuff primarily in the Pacific north west .I suppose a lesser amount would have been found in the midwest for large oaks .
Thicker barked large trees need long dawgs to be able to control them .I for one would not like to attempt a long bar on a 7 plus cubic inch saw without dawgs/spikes  .Just my 2 cents worth on the subject .

I am guessing the Spikes are added because of the high costs of litigation, i bet every chainsaw sold today has 25 or 30% added cost because of litigation.

Look at the Manuals the first many pages cover safety, same with Firearms, it's the cost of litigation, and each time a new person to chainsaws makes a mistake and gets hurt or killed there is  litigation involved.

I am surprised we have not seen more Government getting into making new safety laws in regards to chainsaws.

I am all for safety but i don't like Attorneys getting rich, beating on both the Mfg. of Chainsaws and Firearms.

It's a fact of life the Millennial's and Gen Z's seem to be copacetic with. Personally, I feel insulted to read all that garbage. If you don't know enough of that beforehand, then chances are reading all of it won't help you.....it's all for the lawyers.

Don't want to get into a political rant, but the Patriot Act and Homeland Security lets the government spy on citizens again(and keep files), just like in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. No one seems enraged about that at all. So in the end, the lawyers and the illusion of national "security" win......

the part numbers were different but the bolt holes lined up for the 462 outer spikes on a 461 so yes they will fit
