This Fall, my MS271 has been very hard to start.  I've had to pull the cord 15 or 20 times to get it going....and often flooded the engine, as well.  I suspected the ignition coil.  I had a box of parts I salvaged off my old MS036 when it died about 5 years ago...the ignition coil among the parts.  So, I compared the two coils, and outside of the 036 coil being "thicker", the dimensions seemed the same.  I installed the old 036 coil, and outside of a slightly longer plug cable, which I re-routed, everything seemed to fit.  I set the gap to .5MM, and closed it back up.  I gave it 2 pulls on full choke before it "burped", then it fired right up on the 2nd pull with the choke off.  This was a week ago, and I've been firing it up in my workshop every day, since, with good results.
I've got an outdoor wood furnace, and 40 acres of forest, so I harvest several dead trees every Fall/Winter, which saves a bunch on the electric bill.  We are supposed to have some mild weather next week, so I'll give this "fix" a good workout, and if it holds up, I've got a good working saw, again.
