I was visiting a friend yesterday and noticed he had a chainsaw all disassembled and pushed under his workbench.
Being a red/orange colour I asked if it was a Husky and he replied "No it's a Pioneer - FarmSaw"..  says he has had it for decades and it looked basically brand new. He explained it needed a new coil and he couldn't find one anywhere.
Does anyone know where I (he) can get a coil for it.. it is apparently from the plate attached to the body a 249 FM-S model and the apparently dead coil from it shows a 3405347 number on it.
I tried that number and it looks like it isn't available anywhere from what I could see from a quick search.
Any ideas or suggestions as to what it could be replaced with and where from?
Thanks!

Have you tried out FF sponsor chainsawr? He does have quite a few of everything. It's worth a shot.
Trying harder everyday.

Can you can post a picture of the saw and coil ?

I "cured" 3 of them from 2 Farmsaws and a Farmlite in the wife's oven.  250 degrees for 90 minutes.  All three ran afterwards.
She was not home of course!

I have a picture fresh from the oven, but the pics go sideways in this forum for some reason.

Just drove the moisture out of them or ?

Yeah, I'm curious as to the logic behind this as well. That's not hot enough to effect any 'cold' soldering. ???

My neighbor has a cheap off shore 50cc scooter that he does the same thing to. He heats the ignition module to around that temp for half hour or so and it starts. Happens every once in a while, seems to work. Must get moisture working its way into it.

I read an article about some guys in Germany who meets on a regular basis just to repair and compare old chainsaws. The organizer have parts for many old saws. Maybe he can help? Here is the article I read. And here is a link to a museum in Germany that is mentioned in the article. All in German, but there is a contact form where you can send a message and ask. I'm sure they speak English.

Unless something is uber rare/desirable.....if there were sufficient units made, parts are out there. Now, sometimes it take some real sleuthing to find out who's sitting on what.;D

I've seen parts stuff turn up on eBay that should by all rights, be extinct. You might wait yrs and then in one week there could be three that show up on eBay.smiley_flipping I mean if eBay is any fun at all(that's debatable), it's the thrill of seeing something listed NOS that you formally thought was extinct.

Junk almost always moves....people die, estate sales happen....stuff get disposed of if it has any value etc.

Using an iPhone to post a picture is a lesson in futility.  I'll try it on a desktop instead.

The procedure to fix a posted tipped photo remains the same.

I think it cooks the moisture out of the coils.  Some of the stuff that comes out looks kinda nasty.  Since I did this one went bad now again.  It was in one of the saws sitting on the bottom shelf of the rack closest to the garage floor.

I'm sorry for being so dense, I've posted dozens of pics on other saw forums and am used to that procedure for desktop or iPhone.
It was just a picture of 3 blue Pioneer coils on a baking sheet with the oven door open.  You can view it on some other saw sites, or use your imagination I guess.
No big deal, I still enjoy the forum.

You're not dense. A tip I use is to keep your gallery in your cache so it's always available to upload pictures from your photos to. When you're posting click on the add photos in your post and then select the photos in your gallery and click on the add photo to post and click ok for each photo you choose to add. Works slick for me. I do it all the time from the shop at times. Iphone 5s oldy

For your Pioneer Farmsaw.
Buy one of these Husky coils (available from a lot of sources) and you can either push out the armature and replace it with the blue Prestolite coil armature or as is with a few simple brackets to adapt the coil as is.
It works great.
