cktate, that is great! For future reference, if you want to buy small brushes etc. to kludge into something try a place such as Grainers. Here is a link to their parts catalog:

One size fits all if you have a Grainger catalog, grinder, and welder!  :D

Sometimes worse then the parts is the difficulty changing a  ten dollar item. Remember the pull the engine to replace the spark plug car?
If I were ever a dictator with real power, I would make engineers replace parts on 15 year old vehicles with standard tools,( no special factory made jobs) on a sloping  muddy driveway with a windy drizzle at 35 degrees. With a woman nagging them to hurry up and finish because she has to have the car for errands.

If I can't swing it for myself, ya got my vote.

I would've sent em back an e-mail saying I'll be finding out just as soon as I can sell this green one and get a red one. It's that kind of attitude from John Deere that has me buying red tractors next. >:( They could care less about keeping customers just make sure the stock options keep flowing in. Guess you can tell how they treat me, owned John Deere all of my life but the next one will be red or blue.

It's not just Deere it's all of them.

Agreed.  I DID have to get their attention at the new John Deere place here awhile back over some parts they failed to order.  I explained it they didn't start treating me right, I went over the salesman's head straight to the owner, I'd do my best to help em close that great big ole new store down.  Haven't had any runarounds or trouble from that there salesman since, even if I wanted to order a 2 dollar part. :)

I only been to Grangers one time in my whole life and that was last week. I runned down to the one in Tupelo.  I'm not doubting they sell good stuff, not at all, but to me they're highway robbers too!

It started like this.  When I got ready to change the brakes on the ole F250 my big ole two and a half ton floor jack bit the dust, again.  I'd done replaced the seals in the cylinder a couple of times and decided enough was enough, time to replace the dang thing.

I knew my dad was gone to town so I called him and tole him to pick me up a floor jack.  He came in with one from Wally World that 'said' it was 3 ton floor jack.  When I first even looked at it I had my doubts.  It just looked too light duty.

I was right, it wouldn't even pick up the front of that truck what with that big ole diesel motor in it.  It'd just squeeze the juice straight through the bypass valve.

As I said, I'd never even been to Granger but I decided to take the piece of Junk back to Wally World and go get me a good un.  Yep, good un is right.  You wouldn't BELIEVE how much Granger wanted for one a their good uns.  I sadly left their store cause no way could I justify investing that much in a floor jack no more that I was a gonna be using it.

I left there and went to TSC and picked up what they said was a three and a half ton.  It was over twice as heavy as the Wally World version, about twice the cost (comparing quality between the two I could justify this) and way less than half the cost of the Granger version, which as I said I sadly could NOT justify. It did pick the front of my truck without struggling though so I guess it's gonna be ok.

I'll  keep em in mind if I need any brushes though and that's a fact!

C.,

You are right about Grainger not being cheap, but they have top end in quality. So its a case you get what you pay for.

Agreed.  As I said, I left, 'sadly'. :)

Reminds me of a four wheeler story.

I used to work at a parts store right after I got out of high school.  The next youngest guy had been there 15 years, and the manager 30 odd years.  There was an outside sales "know it all" from the main store that was talking about "special ujoints" he'd bought for his 4wheeler at the dealer; $25 each or somthing.

The manager asked to see one.  The sales guy produced one and the old man looked it over just a second and walked over to the ujoint shelf, pulled out a couple boxes, compared, and set two boxes out on the counter.
"They fit a dump truck pto but they won't know they're in a 4wheeler."

$8ea.

Those fellers taught me more than I probably realize.
