Should I use attic fans (a pair)?

I know I need to think about all metal contruction, as I don't want the things to melt down. But how much airflow do I need here (cfm)?

Doc,

This doesn't answer your question but I have some related questions, so I thought I'd post them in your thread.

I plan on building a solar kiln later this spring that will hold between 700 and 1000 board feet, but I do not have access to the electric grid.  My idea was to use a solar panel and a battery bank (3 deep cycle marine batteries in parallel) along with 1 or 2 12-volt fans that came from a car's cooling system.

On the weekends, when I am on site, I could charge the batteries with my 1000 watt gas generator if the solar cell can't produce enough power to keep the batteries fully charged.

Do you think such a set-up will work?  Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Al

air flow calculation tips are covered in articles on www.woodweb.com. Search for solar kiln and set aside an hour or so to read and learn.

I used attic fans that kick on when the temp gets just so.

I used eight inch  Duct booster fans  in my kiln.  They called for one fan for every four feet of length A fan with 300 cmf for ever four foot of length in a 1000 B.F. kiln
