I am wondering the best way to go about sawing logs for my future log home. I have enough standing pine for the logs i would like to know when the best time to cut the trees or dosen't it matter.I want to make 6x8 inch D style logs.Any information would be welcome.

In the summer I would not fell more logs then I could get sawn with in the next week.  As soon as the cant is made remove all bark and sticker out of sunlight on 2x2's about every 3 or 4 ft up off the ground a foot or two.  In the winter months it is not so bad as the bugs  and stain will not be so bad.  The bark peels easy in the spring.  I try not to get to much weight on a stack so if a log is going to move I like for it to move now, then when I build.  Long logs are nice but you have more taper to remove which off sets the pith and are harder to handle.   When making SYP logs like you want I take the first 8 ft of log for boards because it has the most taper and  tension.
