Does anyone make a full chisel chain in a 3/8" low-profile size?

I could swear I saw one some years ago, but that was before I owned a saw that used that size chain. Since I picked up a battery chainsaw on sale a while back, I'm interested in trying out a full chisel chain on it, rather than the semi chisel that came with it.

Thanks. That put me on the right track, but I'm not seeing any full chisel in narrow kerf, .043 gauge (which is what my battery saw takes, and seems to be popular with most battery saws.) Maybe I'm just missing it in their line-up?

Not a huge issue, since I don't use this saw much, but something I would like to try at some point. I sent an inquiry to Stihl to see if it's something they offer that I'm just missing on their web site.

I don't believe they have full chisel in narrow kerf, but that's just what I've heard around. I never personally looked into it.

I googled, and found that Archer and Forester make it, but I only saw it on spools on Amazon-no loops.

I would like to have some loops too, but not bad enough to buy a whole spool.  Stihl may make it, but none to be found around here.

I had never heard of Archer before.  It's Australian that says made from Japanese steel, whatever that means.

How does this compare to Oregon 91 VXL ?

Tom King

Looks like 91vxl is a semi-chisel.

This explains the differences, and also that 91 is a low profile .050 :

I'd go in for a few loops worth to try if you need to break a spool.

Heard back from Stihl:

"Regarding your inquiry, unfortunately, we do not offer that option for a .043 gauge chain."

Forester sells it. I run it on my ms170 that I keep at the mill. Almost too aggressive for the 170

Semi chisel lp chain cuts great, I'm never buying full chisel again, gets dull too fast, if you hit something half the tooth is gone by time you get a good corner back on it.  If it cuts a hair faster you spend that time sharpening.   Steve

That's SO true. You can cut way more wood with a loop of semi. The edge lasts longer cause it's more forgiving. And the chain lasts more than twice as long because it usually only takes a couple file strokes to bring it back.

I'm a fan of semichisel myself. It may not be a speed master, but it still throws good chips, and gets through the wood fast enough. Every time I start slightly regretting my stockpile of semichisel reels, I'm back to cutting trash that would absolutely thrash full chisel chain.

I had not thought of that. For the type of cutting I generally do, I prefer full chisel on my .325 and regular 3/8" pitch chains. The 3/8 low profile, narrow kerf chains are so small I guess it doesn't take much to do significant damage to the corner/point on a full chisel.
