I have read many reviews online for the harbor freight sawmill. The majority seem to really like the mill. Being on the shoestring budget I doubt that you could buy the parts and build a mill for the cost of the HF mill . Also there is a 20% coupon you can print off the Internet. They seem to cost about $ 1800.  I was just about to pull the trigger on a HF mill when I found a used Kasco for $ 1500.

I don't think they allow you to use the 20% coupon on the mill anymore.
I used the 20% coupon on the HF website and it worked. In May 2022, it knocked $480 of the price. Also took 77-days for the thing to get here. The trucker from Saia LTL Freight said they ship a crap-ton of them.

I see my old post from 2015, so I've been using my HF saw for over 8 years. It's still cutting away. I did upgrade the motor to a predator 13hp electric start. It was almost a bolt on change.

This is an interesting thread. I don't know that I'll ever buy a sawmill but I'm pretty positive I will never be able to afford (or talk myself into) anything more expensive than some of the less expensive Woodland Mills options, so the HF model seems like a maybe, and that's if I don't go to the trouble of building one, which I'm probably not skilled enough to do. I'll have to look more closely at these mills to see what's up.

I bought one years ago to mill lumber for a house.  After two months of waiting, I called and they said it was on the way.  2 weeks later a truck showed up and delivered a hud-son mill.  It was smaller than what I ordered, but it worked.  The capacity is about 16 inches, but I plan on making it wider.  Not sure why they sent me a hud-son mill.

Back when I started [1980] land owners would call to get the logs sawed that the 'dumb' logger left on the landing. Like a fool I would saw them. That was paying my dues. Some how those dumb loggers knew something I didn't.
