Never been involved with fire fighting myself, but I was working one summer for a forest company that told us we could be called at any time to help with fire suppression. I didn't know what to think of it at the time, because we never had any training before-hand.  :-\

I think the rate is double for that type of work (fire damage assessment) isn't it Ron  ???  ;D ;)

Long range predictions for rain say we'll get normal rainfall this year, so I'm looking for our normal fire seasons.

Here in Virginia and surrounding States, our spring fire season is in March and April.  This spring we had about 35 fires in both my counties.  A little lower than usual.  Most were only 0.1 acre to 1.0 ac.  The biggest was only 8 acres, with the help of a helicopter to keep it that small.  That one was started by a bullet ricochet, first one I've had to start like that.  Just about all others were trash burning or kids playing with matches.  We usually get a bunch of roadside fires, but I think it was too wet early in the season, then when the rain stopped, the grass greened up too fast for cigarettes and roadside arsonists to make much of an impact.

We usually get a little bit of a fire season about the last half of November when it gets dry again.  Then it shuts down in December when it gets too cold.
