I had the good fortune of participating in a timberframe class taught by @Jim_Rogers a few weeks ago.

It was a great class, and I learned a lot.

I cleaned up my notes from the class and thought I would post them here.

The first thing we did is learn how to select the reference faces and the marking conventions, next we laid out a tenon (I rarely spell this write when making notes).

Next we laid out mortises and cut them with a boring machine and a chain mortiser.

And then braces and brace layout.

There are a lot of nuances to making things work with square rule timberframing.  I walked away knowing that there is a lot that I don't know.

I hope my scribbles help someone, if it's confusing or I have it wrong, let me know!

lots of dull bands and chains

There's a fine line between turning firewood into beautiful things and beautiful things into firewood.

Thanks for your kind words. And attending the class.
