The Otis paper mill is gone now. It was located in Jay-Chisolm. This was a paper mill built back in the early 1900's. My grandfather worked there. It was an old brick building.
This happened a couple days ago.
There is a metal scrap yard that owns it now.
No idea what will happen now, besides it being filled with metal.
The brick smokestack was knocked down last year.

Antiquated mill, one of the oldest anywhere.
Was in and out of there with an alignment contractor quite a bit between
15 and 20 yrs ago. Small narrow machines running on a prayer mostly.
Rotted steel machine frames was a common repair . Been shut down since 2009.

Meanwhile, up river a few miles in Jay the shut down IP paper mill will be
coming back to life as an OSB facility and set to begin production within a couple years .
Construction jobs and 125 new employees should bring a little life back to a struggling community.

That old paper mill sounds like what they did here with the old Brokaw mill. A scrap metal recycling company bought the property, and set up their permanent business location on the site. Which makes sense when a huge demolition project can take years to complete. Many years later they are still there buying junk cars and other metals, and show no signs of leaving.

Yes, that is really what is going on, Clarks. The closet one is about 45 minutes away. This company has one in Hallowell that I know of.
There are piles of metal from the old mill. I would think it would take them a while, summer, to haul that all off.
