I included a picture of this in a previous message and had comments so I though I'd start its own subject.  One of the comments was that red pine logs bend like a banana.  I have had problems with 4x4 twisting before and a little bending but not in just a few days.  I have had good luck so far cutting these 3 side logs and even letting them sit for 2-4 days before installing them.  I started just cutting one out of the smaller logs but have been getting 2 out of the bigger logs and that is the part that makes me nervous after reading comments.  I am wondering if it makes a difference if they are from a very slow growing patch of pine that never got thinned.  I am pretty sure these where planted at least 60 years ago.      Well I decide to just move ahead and not worry.  They are being attached with 3 screws and then adding 1/2 wood dowels in between.    The whole structure is only 9x10.
I started this project last year and it got put on hold, but the original logs from last year have held up nicely hand have barely moved.
edit:  I am cutting them 6 inches high as they sit and approx. 4 to 4-1/4 inches front to back depending on the looks of the log face.
Pictures from the log installed last year

As you can see they have held up well, i even put a level on them all the way around and spot on.

Pictures of some of the logs and of the cabins as it looks now.

This project has been in my head for awhile and now that i have the logs I have decided to build it.  Never did anything like this before so I am sure mistakes will be made, but that is how i learn best,  Plus its now out of my head and in progress.  ffcool

You mentioned 4x4's bending, but these look more like 4x6s? It is a cool project.  Looks like a nice pressure treated base underneath.  What's your planned use for the cabin?

Opps I forgot to post the size, I will have to edit.   I am cutting them 6 inches high as they sit and approx. 4 to 4-1/4 inches front to back depending on the looks of the log face.  Yes i spent the money on good 4x6 pressure treated timbers for under it.

The use  LOL I laugh because that is what all my friends ask me.   I actually have no clue at this point.   friends or family camping, for me if I need to get away from the wife.
Years ago i tore a travel trailer down to the frame and built it back to look like a caboose i just sold it last year  :)

No plans to sell the log cabin, but for the right price who knows.
