Yeah, I've seen laptops with that. The battery was non-removable (without a screwdriver), so there was no easy way to power down the machine completely. A toothpick in the hole disconnected the internal battery and allowed a full reset.

I had a similar machine from a client, it just sat there with a black screen no matter what you did with the power button, but no external hard reset option. I picked it up, hoping that a battery out reset would clear it. By the time I got it on the desk it was 0% battery, and rebooted fine. But I wonder how many have been scrapped for a similar glitch?

It would be like throwing away your chainsaw because you flooded it?

I've moved the router and phone to a new location in the house and am getting these kind of numbers sustainably, usually the U/L is in the 20's. On the porch the D/L is double that. If a fella hooked up one of them cell phone signal boosters from  weBoost ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcool

That's perfectly OK speeds even without a signal booster.

Heck it should even stream 4k video, that needs maybe 25 mbit, with 50 suggested to account for other traffic.

What we found when switching from DSL to fiber was the upload speed. Previously it was maybe 1 mbit upload / ~8 down. OK for basic stuff, and even regular streaming. But when Lil got home and her phone wanted to sync photos and videos from the day to the cloud it saturated the upload bandwidth, and that crippled the download speed as well. It would clear up after a few minutes, depending on how much data there was.

Initially we had 200/200, which realistically was fine. But our ISP had a deal to sign up for 900/500 for about the same cost (for a 12 month resign-up).

Yeah, if you can get on Fiber that's about the best you'll get. I just do basic stuff here, 50/10 would be lots for all I do. No, I wouldn't bother with a booster, but it's interesting how much faster the signal is outside. Inside, the second floor is insulated. I've got a newer 3000 sq ft router though, mesh antennae. Has USB3, not USBC, but way faster than USB2 of the old one. It's faster than my ethernet cable can provide anyway, and there are different grades of cable for faster throughput. I do like that U/L compared to what it was on Xplore, probably 15 x faster or more.

Yeah, but you need both the cable and the network switches. I've managed to scrounge a couple of Gb switches from client upgrades, and have 5e / 6 cables. Gb switches are now standard stuff of course, but if you have to actually buy one, for $$, when you have a perfectly fine 100mb one, and won't notice the difference....

I've only used about 90 Gb of data in 2 weeks, 185 GB left on 5G speed.
