Any recommendations for an add-on transmission for a couple of different gear ratios.   this would be for an '04 F350 PSD.  I seen a thread  a while back talking about add-on gear boxes but I can't seem to find it.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I work with a guy that has one of these behind a TH-400 hooked to a 700+ hp BBC, he did tear up something in it once, but the company made it right for him.  No first hand experience with any of them myself.  I always wanted one, but too steep for me :(

You can add an overdrive or underdrive depending on your needs. An auxillary transmission should be a close ratio behind a wide ratio main to be most effective. Todays close ratio mains won't work well with an aux.

We did discuss this a while back.....
I am interested in putting a conventional tranny behind my 2 ton grain trucks F-600 tranny so as to be able to actually drive it on the interstate.....it tops out at 55 at about 6 grand!!!!
Any way any actually gone through with it.....good sugestions?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to change the rear end?

Buzz, I thought older F-600s came stock with two speed rear ends?

Some had 2 sdp and a few had 3 spd rear ends. Is there a small box on the side of the shift knob? If yes, drive in any gear, and pull the knob, when you let your foot off the gas it should shift for an upshift, to down shift it push in on the button and then hit the gas hard, it will down shift. If it has 3 spd there are 3 positions for the button. A 2 spd splits each of the gears in half to get up to speed easier, and high gear with the button out is a decent high speed, but they were not designed to go over about 60-65 tops on the ones I have driven.

When I was growing up (some say I never did) my dad had an old doodle bug. It was a reworked ford truck from the 20's that had been cut down and had 3 tranies in a row. Not sure how it worked but you could just shift the main and leave the other 2 in high. Had 24" rubber on it and I think it was worm drive so it could never be towed to start. With all 3 tranies in low it barely crawled. Had chains for it and a hugh limestone block that was about 4 ft wide x 2' x 1.5'. Top road speed was about 30-35 and lo lo lo was much slower that my tractor now with creeper gear. I'll guess about .1 mph but if you could get enough traction it would pull anything we ever hooked it to. Radiator always leaked, had to be drained and left idle in winter but we had a 12 gal wooden bbl mounted on the side to keep the radiator full. Lasted all day but needed to be filled at the start of each day and sometimes late in the day if the temp started rising on the gauge, just added real slow until the temp dropped and then filled it faster by adding into the bbl.

Dad's was sold to an old guy when we got a real tractor. An old Farmall F-12, crank start, 3 spd. Top speed was a comfortable walk. Had rubber but came with the original steel front and rears. Bought it for $125 in about 1960 and sold it for $900 in 1981 or 82 with the steel wheels to a collector. Tried to sell it to the local dealer for about 5 years and a few weeks after it sold the dealer called and wanted to make a deal, just my luck, he offered $1500 before I got a chance to say it was sold. Ran good for 15 horses, I think they were work horses, not like the lawn mowers you get now that claim to be 15 horse.
