Took a short trip yesterday and found this historical marker. I don't know if it means that I am famous or infamous. The Anthony Lindsay on the marker is my great- great grandfather, but he is also the great grandfather of Jesse and Frank James,  the bank robbers.

Humph, my great grandpa hunted your ancestors for a living.  Deputy US Marshal, every time Frank and Jesse came home (next county over from us) my great grandpa would find business in St. Louis to take him out of town.  Never could figure out how he could know a couple of days ahead of time when the boys was coming home for a break in their schedule.  But, folks back then were still a little clannish and stuck together.

You're my new best friend, Pigman. When should I be at your house?

Can we not tell my wife about this?  :-X

My kinship to Jesse is on the maternal side of his mother. There are several other branches to that tree. ;)

Buzz, I don't know if I am on the nuts branch smiley_headscratch, but I know I am on the lazy branch. At least the James branch worked hard at robbing banks. :( :D

Just a question here. I was wondering if a buffalo trace was a buffalo migration path. ???  When my grand father had his hunting and guiding business he said there were caribou migration paths in the barren places. There were no woodland caribou in his time (in New Brunswick), but his father used to guide American sports for woodland caribou and moose.

I was amazed one time when we went to the Gaspe, QC to see a mansion in the woods, once owned by a English Rail Road Tycoon. It was a hotel, house, school, restaurant and now a museum. Unfortunately I can't find a web site on the historical site.  :'(

Sorry S D, I don't know anything about the buffalo trace thing. The marker is near Stamping Ground, Ky.  About 75 miles north, near the Ohio River, there is Big Bone Lick State Park which has a salt lick full of prehistoric animal bones. Maybe the bison were going there to get salt.  :P

I need some help here. I wonder if this is the buffalo they mentioned on the marker.

Or were they talking about these bison.

The buffallo has someone one their back and they do have a family resemblance. ::)

You mean these things ???  ;)

Salt Plains

QuoteSprings that seep out of the surface here carry mineral salt deposits which are strewn in sheets and piles of salt across the 250 square kilometre salt plain unique to Canada. Several plant species that require a saline environment grow here far from marine shorelines.

QuoteThe Park maintains a bison weight database going back to 1956 and during all that time there is only one record of a plains bison bull weighing more than 2000 pounds (909 kg) while over one-third of the wood bison bulls exceed this weight.
