Has anyone ever built removable sides to haul cattle on a flatbed trailer?  I have also pondered some sort of large box that could be placed with a tractor.

I've thought about doing that too.  I can't see why it won't work.  I'd want to make the racks plenty tall, and tie them together with something like tarp bows, especially if you are hauling cattle of any size.   I've thought about modifying a shipping container to haul cattle, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble.

There used to be an outfit making just such a "convertible" trailer.  They had all sorts of optional bodies to put on it.  No reason why it won't work.

Around here most farmers had a cattle box. It was a wooden box the width and lenght of a pickup box.  The tailgate was hinged to make a ramp for loading . it sat on the tailgate till they needed it then back the truck up to it, tip it endo and slide it in. Some even had overhead door springs to help lift the tailgate. usualy made of hardwood bolted and ironed off. Helped my neighber load lots of cattle on his.

Bein a 2-door made loadin a like tricky ;D

If you can make plywood sides so they can't see out very good they will travel better.

I know of a guy around here that made a cattle/horse box to fit a 16 utility trailer.  The rack fits inside the side rails and has a gate on the back...   To take it out, he chains it to a post and drives out from under it.  I think he winches it on.    I dunno how it's secured.  He reports it works well.
