a friend of a friend is hard up on cash and wants to sell me a lincoln power arc 5500 generator / welder for 750.00 it only has 2 hours of use on it so far. Question I have does it have a resale value equal to 750.00?

What's a new one worth?  Divide by two then decide how much you like the guy and go from there. 2 cents

Thats why I was asking, I don't know much about gas powered welder / generators. Looks like a new one from online dealers cost around 1300.00 to 1500.00, I don't know if thats a good price or not.

I was thinking about buying it and if it wasn't big enough to handle what I need it for selling it off or trading it for something I need.

Does it have the Honda engine or the Robin engine? I think the welder is only AC. Do you have a need for the welder or the generator? I did a Google and you can buy it for $1300+ all kinds of places with free shipping. Not a bad price but it depends on what you need. There are certainly better welders and larger generators around. Me, I would pass because its not something I have a need for.

Two hours? Does it come with the original sales receipt? $1300 new versus $750 for two hours, if'n I was in the market I'd jump on it, after I tried him out for $650 ;D.

its a dc welder, has a robin engine on it.

going to try getting him down to 700.00.  Basically he bought it to use as a backup welder or generator for his shop and used it once during a power outage last year. He startes it every couple months to keep the engine free and lubricated.

There's a lincoln power arc 4000 generator welder on ebay right now the bid is going at 800 dollars.  It has a brigs motor on it.  Also it is a AC welder, in fact a 125 amp AC stick welder. DC will weld a much smoother bead in most cases.

I once bought a welder from Cleveland Ohio, off of Ebay.  The shipping was gonna cost me a fortune. I called my dad and asked em what he was gonna be doing the next couple of days.  He said "oh, nothing really, why?".  I told em I needed em to runned up to Cleveland Ohio and pick up a welder for me.

LOOOOOONG Silence on the other end of the phone and then he said that it'd take more than a day.  I told em YEP, but since I was spending money anyways I'd just as soon pay him for the trip as I'd pay somebody else to ship the dang thing.  Also that way he could check it out for me.  They'd never been up that way and him and mother really enjoyed the trip!    :)

I enjoy those kinds of getaways, I bought a wrecked harley flh from SC a couple years ago for the engine and tranny, long drive by myself, but great on the brain. Sold the rebuilt bike and bought a honda and a few tools.

Are you sure it is DC? According to the Lincoln Site you have to go up to the Weldanpower 125 to get DC, about $400 more smiley_dizzy
