it happens and anybody that says they never get stuck is either lieing or never cuts wood
-plus cut the dirt and put a chain on backwards .Pshaw I've had two saws stuck at the same time ;D

To paraphrase an old fishing quote:

OK, maybe I'm the woodcutter now.
I work with wood, There is a rumor I might be a woodworker.

I've brought 6 different saws on some big tree removals. What a pita to get all those chains ground ahead of time. I usually just have a spare bar and motor if I'm just  cutting timber.

Running vintage saws on a paid job I take four. Most of the time I just use two. But, there was one unlucky job where I was down to the last saw. Like they say 'chite happens'.

I'm happy with the bark box on my 462 arctic , I got a couple on the new 500i that I have yet to in service , also got another new 462 arctic setup with a barkbox
Why do you buy them when you port mufflers yourself?

ehp

just easier and fast to put on , forsure not as cheap as doing it myself but at the hours I'm logging I donot have much time to do anything else

Woodfarmer

So I have an Exile plate on one 500i. It's flat with an oval hole in the centre and two 3/4" dia. Double barrel pipes.
Now I think I heard on a builders YouTube video that you want the stock 1" cover on it with a pipe sticking out something to do with needing that expansion chamber.
Of course I cannot for the life of me remember the video. How deep is the bark box, 1/2"?

ehp

pipes donot work if your using the saw for work , you will dent them all up them rip the pipe out of the muffler , most stuff guys are trying to sell guys today was done 20 or more years ago and they try to tell you they are inventing the wheel sort of lol , Same with porting , most just clean the ports up but donot do any real porting so your not changing the rpm of the power band . If you just barely clean the port up and take the base gasket out you lowered the rpm of the power band , ya you will gain a touch in torque but at a lower rpm cutting in the wood , another thing I have seen lots is a loud muffler on a saw and guy will tell you oh she cuts alot faster but when you time a cut on video the saw cut slower , same when guys put a 8 pin gear on a saw like a 372 , yes the saw will pull it but it cuts slower compared to a 7 pin gear with the chain set up to the gear

the pipe for a muffler is coming from when you build a alcohol/nitro muffler saw you weld a pipe inside the muffler thats the same size as the ext port , now the pipe doesnot exit the muffler but is close , the reason is not to make power its to get the saw to return to idle after a cut with it , the pipe will catch some of the alcohol and saw will suck it back into the cylinder to help engine return to idle , without pipe and your pushing the port size limits the saw will just scream cause its gone lean after a cut

That is the downside to sending ope to people a person doesnt truly/personally know. They charge X $ for a buffing job and say its ported, instead of actually doing a port job. When i send my saw off, it will go with a new p&c with my pid engraved in both with pictures of the xfr, in/exh port snap gauge and caliper measurements plus a depth measurement of jug mnt base to skirt and from skirt to top of jug.
Supposedly the guy is pretty dang good and talks the talk, hopefully he walks the walk.
I wish the saw was running and someone nearby has a dyno. But i'll have to hope he is a man of word and is on the up n up.

Been watching various videos on saws and like many said. Lots of good things I hear about them. Some guys cut the mesh out on them. Do the older saws like my Husky 371 have a spark arrestor on them if anybody knows?

ehp

yes the 371 had a spark arrestor from the factory , Lots take them out

Walnut Beast

Thanks! I wondered about that. Last year when I was dropping a big walnut when it was dark with my headlamp I could see some small sparks coming out when I was bore cutting
