A couple of small things that haven't been covered yet.

Take a small post bag (like a B5 sorta size). Have the stamps for it in your wallet, have it self adressed. That way, IF you get stopped at a security point with a pocket knife you've forgotten (or like me, a small pair of nail scissors in a pocket of my backpack I didn't even remember was there!) you can whip the bag out, and ask the security people to please be kind and put it into the mail on their way home (they're going to be confiscated anyway, so if the security ppl are nasty and steal them, oh well). The checkpoints in Australia now offer a mail-home service at cost. Just buy the post bag, and stamps and they throw them all in the mail at the end of the day. Cool, huh!?

I echo the idea of taking a change of clothes, but I'd go one further, since the two carry on bags will be with you all the time, there's little risk of losing them, so, I'd pack a change of clothes for each of you, plus all the stuff you don't 'really' need to access on the flight into one of the bags, and everything else into the other, that'll save you rummaging through two bags finding stuff.

And last, but definately not least, if you are on any prescription medications TAKE A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCTOR Stating what you are on, why and what doses, etc. This has two uses. Firstly, if the medicaiton has any issues in the country you're going to, it proves you are supposed to have it, but also, more importantly, if you lose your medication, for whatever reason, it makes it MUCH easier to re-prescribe.

Oh, and, remember, carryon bag sizes CAN alter between domestic and international carriers. Usually international is a little bigger, but it would be VERY much worth your while checking (it's usually on the airlines website) and carrying the smallest common denominator.

Have fun!
